Scopan/squapan lake
« on: Dec 29, 2018, 09:41 AM »
How would I access scopan lake by either snowmobile or by truck?  I know in the summer the private boat landing near mapleton is open for public use but how do we access it in the winter?  I'd like to be able to get there if I drive my truck over and park then I can unload my snowmobile and head out.

By North launch you mean masardis end?

Walker siding landing was plowed last I knew. But that was 3 weeks ago
Fishing is like playing at Carnegie Hall, when your good your good. But do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? PRACTICE!

There are year round residents that live in the Walker Siding end of the lake so the road is plowed.

Getting there isn't the problem, its finding a place to park my truck and trailer.

Thats where you will struggle. The launch has been and is currently plowed. The guy that usually plows the launch and the lake decided to pull his shack 2 weeks  ago. We have 10” of heavy wet snow predicted up here tonight and tomorrow, weather someone “new” takes up the plowing chore I have no idea. As it has been the same person the past 10 years and he never had anyone step up and help him. There is a plowed lot next to the launch but that is private property. I suppose you could always ask his permission. His name is Glenn Leach. Other than that the other options are the Masardis end which is usually plowed or sledding into the lake from Mapleton/Chapman as there are several trails that lead to the lake.

FYI....The fishing there thus far has been unusually slow for this time of year.

Just trying to find a spot that's fairly close to home so I can take my daughter with me to go fishing.  I wonder if  hepulled the shack because of all the rain that was coming.  I've never been to the masardis end so I have no idea where I go from there.  Only other options I know of are long or eagle.  if I go out tomorrow I won't be bringing a trailer as I forgot to register the stupid snowmobile.

He is a friend of mine, He lives close by(15 min. or so) and likes to go out every morning before work. He put his shack out Thanksgiving week and pulled it after 2 weeks because the fishing was very slow. He has since relocated it to another lake. There are usually 8-12 shacks out there at this time and at the moment I think there are just 3, people may think twice if they can not find someone to plow that launch and the lake around the shacks. People do not realize how difficult/expensive that is to keep open. And when nobody wants to step up and help or kick in a few bucks for wear & tear/fuel....They will find out the free ride is over.

The Masardis end is easy to find, once you leave Ashland you will see the boat launch sign across the road from the Masardis mill. Depending on how much/quickly the snow piles up tomorrow the Walker siding launch is currently plowed so you could park there.
