Lime Lake, NY
« on: Feb 06, 2018, 11:34 AM »
I'm thinking about making a trip down to try night fishing at lime lake.  I haven't fished out at lime probably since sometime in the late 1980's out of a canoe so my knowledge of the lake is pretty limited.  We drive by Lime on the way to Case/Harwood frequently and every now and again do a drive around the whole thing - usually don't see a ton of people out aside from the kids playing hockey and skating.

Looking at parking at the DEC lot on the north east corner and wandering out til we find some deeper water and seeing what happens.

Aside from the limited access is there a reason so few people fish out there?
Is it worth the gas to drive out for some after hours fishing or would you just to to Silver?
Has anyone caught a walleye or calico?

Lots of questions and not much information today.

There should be some old threads with lots of good info online, do a quick search you should find it a lot quicker than you'll get answers on this thread but like mentioned above lots of Springs, usually lots of snow

I was on lime the other day the ice was good right around a ft. I parked at the Dec lot went out and to the left started in 20 ft of water marked some fish no takers.  Ended up moving all over the lake no fish. I crush crappies there in the spring never done good in the winter other than a tiger last year best of luck to ya! :-\

BlueSnow, this is the web address for the DEC contour maps for Lime Lake.  http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/limelkmap.pdf   Lime Lake has a deep area in the North, a deep area at mid lake and a deep area in the South with shallows in between.  You can park at the DEC Launch in the North section East side.  I haven't been on Lime Lake in quit a few years but the lake doesn't change, maybe the fishing has.  I have fished the mid lake section and I use to go left out of the launch and go just past the 1st point on the East side and fish in 20-30 FOW.  The shallows between the 3 lake sections have springs that don't freeze as thick as the main ice, so I don't recommend going out there unless you have a spud.  We always used a spud when walking around this lake because of the springs.  Perch about 6-9" used to be caught in the area off the point I just told you about, use a spud to get there also.  While targeting perch we use to hook into some big large mouth bass.  You can't keep black bass out of Lime Lake while ice fishing but they use to give us a good fight.  Good luck if you go out, but use spud.

I still haven't made it out to Lime - I'm hoping that the warm up this week isn't indicative of the weather to come otherwise I might have to wait until next year  :-\

Fished there Sunday 2/11. Fished shallow & deep with everything in the book. Got a couple dink crappie  &  perch. Four other huts out, many holes, same result. Shore ice is slush. Had to push sled to end of a dock to access ice, About 6 inches, 3 inches was white. Forget it for this season.
