Heritage Laker tip up question
« on: Feb 17, 2018, 03:14 PM »
This week I bought five nearly new Heritage Laker tip ups. They came spooled with black backing that looks like 50 pounds or more. Do you think I should leave it on or replace it with say 30-36 pound backing? Most of my fishing these days are for what ever is biting. Prefer to catch bass but everything goes back in the hole. Not chasing pike. My concern is the larger diameter backing while create more drag and the fish will spit out the bait. Also, do you think the fish will see the line and spook?
I plan to live forever. So far so good!

Great question.   Drag is a factor in a bass dropping a bait.
Fortunately for you, that difference in line diameter does not affect drag enough to cause a drop.

Its a different story If the spool does not spin freely.   Congrats on the purchase

Don’t waste your time and money... The 50# is fine.
