Luxury Ice Shanty Setups/Items
« on: Jan 31, 2018, 01:06 PM »
So this is for the ones that already have the basics, shelter, heater, electronics, etc...etc.....What extra items or setups do you bring on the ice to add that extra special experience?  Whether it be cooking, music, electronics, organization....lets hear it.

I bought a metal plant stand at Lowes to put over my portable Buddy heater.  It's a lifesaver with kids.  It sits just high enough that it doesn't get too hot but is perfect for warming and drying gloves, hats, etc...

I have a Coleman unit that has a burner on one side and and grill on the other. gives flexibility when it comes to making food on the ice for kids. For breakfast, can go as simple as oatmeal all the way up to the egg samiches the fellas eat on the ice. Very versatile

Well, not a luxury item, but pretty far from a normal setup...

Fishing in a suitcase 5600 Clam is nice with two people... But floor space is limited, and before the newer LED technology... I always ran a heater on the floor, and a lantern hanging from the ceiling..

Got tired of white gas lanterns and ended up buying a propane one..

Didn't take long before I got tired of those green 1lb tanks..

I saw a guy running a lantern off a 5lb tank, and a lightbulb went off in my brain...

I came up with this, no mods necessary, only two zip ties hold the heater on, and the frame of the heater actually supports the vertical outlet coming up... Its almost like it was all made to go together like this...

Takes up less space, heater is at a much better level for practical use, and I can take the one pipe, and run it outside my shack at night for a crappie light... I also use it without a shanty just as much, having that radiant heat at hand level can make a day without a shanty totally fine...

All store bought...

I have a fold down Murphy bed and a fold down table in my shack.

The more I fish, the less I know about fishing...
Send me a PM if you'd like info about how I built my ice shack

Im Pretty sure if I had a permanent shanty with a bed I’d have rattle traps and nap time.

Nice set up jpohlic!

We bring a 32" Samsung TV with a big lithium battery into an otter hub. Runs for hours, when the fish ain't around.

I know custom poles can get expensive..

But this one, I would consider a luxury item, for a permanent shanty...

I will after I go out this weekend. Real basic setup but sure feels huge in the shanty. Got the tv as a gift with a cell phone and didn't really need it. But then we started using it in the camper and now ice fishing. This is what I use for battery and it can run for about 5-6 hours off that alone, I have a spare battery for it too, so I can get 12 hours of entertainment on the ice. Load bunch of shows on a flash drive and off you go.....

https://www.paulcbuff.com/Portable-Power/vagabond-mini-lithium.html

I assume it would work with somewhat more conventional option like this too:

https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Generator-Lithium-Battery-Inverters/dp/B06ZXYVG4G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517513067&sr=8-1&keywords=lithium+battery+with+inverter
I would think any small led tv will work and not draw hardly any power.
If I were to stay out way long I have a small generator too, but I have no intention of being on the ice at night.....
