Frabill Bunker 250 Review
« on: Jan 07, 2018, 11:49 AM »
Just bought a Frabill Bunker 250 (insulated) and prior to purchasing I noticed there were no reviews so I wanted to provide one. Unpacked and set it up in the basement. Windows need to be installed, and tying the strings on the hub eyes. Other than that it is just removing packaging prior to use. Could not zip doors closed after opening them due to the shanty being to tight. Packed it in the case and it fit snugly but did get it in by myself. I picked up the case and put it on my shoulders to see how well it would carry. The stitching where the straps attach to the bag started to break so I'm not sure about the ability to carry this thing on your back.
Yesterday we took it out on the ice. The shanty fit 3 of us and had we drilled our hole locations closer to the corners it would have been very comfortable. The ice screws would not screw in and that was frustrating. I had one other screw I had found on the ice last year and that one screwed it. The following day I compared the 2 screws and had to grind down about half the diameter of the first 1-1/2 threads. Took them to the local quarry and they start nicely now. Overall I would recommend this shanty for someone that does not need the 8' x 8' foot prints of the large hub shanty's. Inside of the shanty is 80" x 80" as described. The shanty comes with 6 ice screws. The exterior pocket on the carry bag for the ice screws has a piece of folded plastic on the bottom of the pouch to keep the screws from poking through the fabric which is a great idea. The size is nice and the shanty itself looks very sharp. We did run a Buddy heater on low and stayed very warm all day. It did take 3 of us to get it back in the bag at the end of the day. I would rate at 4 stars out of 5 due to the screws not working well as manufactured and the carry straps on the bag.
