Anyone using drop shot rigs?  I have used them in the summer with good success.  For those that use them, what setup/technique do you use?

Trying to figure out it if I should use them on a deadstick or tipup?  Should I use a bobber to keep the line suspended better?  Looking for some advice on what works.

I use a crappie rig under a tip up.   Same concept as a drop shot rig

For those that use them on a deadstick, do you use a bobber to help keep the line suspended  or do you just adjust the reel drag once you have it in position?

Only issue with them is getting the hook caught on the bottom of the hole or having a big fish get caught on the bottom of the hole. It will make you second guess using one after losing a couple big fish that way. I'd definitely be more inclined to use them on a lake with no current and say a river that does have current. Attaching a jig to the bottom is also a neat little trick. That way you have two hooks on your line. But again, if the fish takes the drop shot you have your Jake at the bottom during the retreat possibly getting caught up on the bottom hole or vice versa this can be eliminated obviously by just putting a sinker on the bottom of the line instead of a jig, but what fun is that lol!

Good feedback.  I guess I am not too concerned with the hook catching the bottom of the hole, but I will try it a few times and see if it is an issue with my setup. Thanks for the reply.

Sure thing, sorry for the autocorrected words in my post. I fixed them now.

Check out the VMC drop shot hooks, they are attached to an inline swivel. (Instead of tying the hook directly to your line with a Palomar knot)

I saw those online, unfortunately nobody locally sells them, so I will have to place an order on the go ol' interweb.

What’s the point of using a drop shot if your just going to dead stick it or leave it on a tip up? The point of the drop shot is to offer a different presentation while actively presenting your bait...
