Oh Yea; what about Trout stamps?
« on: Dec 28, 2017, 08:04 AM »
The regs for this year reads (A Trout Stamp shall be issued for a calendar year), (...shall possess ...waters of the inland district...,Salmon, trout or kokanee without first obtaining a Trout Stamp.) Are they available yet? if not is it still legal to fish for trout come Monday?

I believe from what I read as long as it's not a TMA river you can still fish for them in lakes and ponds. I believe you just need it to keep them? I could be wrong but I think I read that
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

Yea, no person shall possess trout without a trout stamp. But the town halls don't have them yet. I had planned on fishing trout this weekend but now I'm not sure its technically legal to take one.

I talked to DEEP also  They told me the same thing the new regulation isn't actually approved yet so although it is in the book it wont go into effect until January. I guess we will need to keep an eye on it.

And, to be specific, the regulation does say you will not need a stamp for waters stocked at no expense to the state. You only need a trout stamp to "possess on the waters of the inland district or the marine district, or on the shores of such waters, Atlantic Salmon, trout or kokanee without first obtaining a trout stamp".

So it means I can still catch and keep trout as long as I have my freshwater license in January UNTIL the stamp is made available? Then I need the stamp?

I'm tired and easily confused tonight. I hope it makes more sense tomorrow. lol

Don't expect a physical stamp. You most likely just log on to the licensing unit, pay, and print out a new license that will say "trout stamp". That's how it is for the state duck stamp that you need to hunt ducks. I hope something is in the regulation that prohibits the grubby hands of the legislature from stealing our money. Happened one time with the duck stamp fund.
