Strikemaster mag 3 question
« on: Dec 27, 2017, 08:24 PM »
Had a mag 3 given to me, had been ran dry and then put in storage for 7 years. After a bit of work.... fresh gas, new plug, fuel inlet connector, ran carb cleaner thru it and adjusted carb, when temps were in mid to upper 40’s it would start on the 1st pull.... now that it’s colder it’s hard to start again. Do the carbs need adjusted differently in colder temps or could there still be more gunk in the carb that needs cleaned out?

Fill auger tank 1/4 w/proper oil/gas mix to that add Seafoam 2oz or more ...mix ....run auger till warmed up...then kill motor via the choke .....let sit half hour repeat ...let sit over night ...should fix some of the woes .

There is also a plastic nipple/elbow from fuel line to carb ...the split/crack/ leak sometimes suck air sometimes leak gas ..it will have you chasing your tail if you have a bad one.

since you said it had been sitting for 7 years dry with no gas in it I would do a rebuild of the carb. the diaphragm might have dried out and cracked. it was advised not to let these engines and carbs run dry because of issues like the cracking.

would that still be applicable if it was starting and running fine when the temps were warmer? It would start on the first pull and quick response when I’d hit the throttle.

If you do a rebuild kit ...there is a small screen ...does not come with the kit ...don't lose it but it can get gummed up and needs TLC...GAP .30  on the plug...also check and see if the vent is working in the gas cap ...long shot but can happen.
