I see you're working fingers to the bone, Nate!
No wind appears this day and the sun is out in force making the ice feel more like a beach.
Good stuff! That's an indisputably perfect day for "warm water" species right there. I'll go with chasing macks.Get up before 4am and put a pot of coffee on. Start bacon frying on low, low heat while I get myself ready and choose how many layers to wear for the day. Go back to kitchen and see that my girlfriend has started the eggs, packed all the fixings and gear needed for chili lunch on the ice, and is loading the cooler with other snacks, beer, and vodka. Buddy arrives at 4:30-5 to drive us all up while I eat breakfast sandwhich and sip coffee.A perfect day also means not needing too many layers even in the mtns because it's spring. Arrive at WF or Granby at 7 to set up on a spot that's been producing the last few imperfect days. No wind appears this day and the sun is out in force making the ice feel more like a beach. Ice is 12-18" thick by this time of year so it's going nowhere even with highs topping out at 50-60 degrees. Everyone's catching fish right away with a few near 30" showing up. They're also catching sun while the ice only slightly deteriorates. Eat hot chili in the 70 degree "mess hall hut" and doze off relaxing in a camp chair. Catch a few more in the afternoon then watch the alpenglow appear over the distant mountains. This kind of perfect ice day is because of good weather, hot tasty food, and great friends. But it didn't hurt to catch a few nice fish.
So howd u do at LL?
Stayed in town...we're not total idiots!
Nice photo, Shu! I agree, hiking up to a secluded alpine lake and having the whole place to yourself is hard to beat
Up at 4am and make sure GF has started eggs. Man if I got my wife up at 4am to whip up some eggs I would get the frying pan to the head
No, no. I didn't "make" sure...I "see" that she had taken over voluntarily in the kitchen while I was getting ready.
