Marcum lx vs m series
« on: Nov 25, 2017, 08:48 AM »
I’m looking at getting a new flasher. I have seen some pretty good deals on last year models the lx series but know the new m series are supposed to be brighter and also are brushless. What are people’s thougts? Initially I was going  To get an m3 but I can get the lx5i for the same price as the new m3. Would it be worth getting the newer version and only getting the m3 vs lx5i? I’m sure the new ones are quieter, more efficient, and brighter. Where I fish I probably wouldn’t benefit from the dual beam. Is the super fine line all that and more? does anyone know how much the m3 will go for at the St. Paul ice show?
Any opinions are appreciated

better motors on the new flashers, the older model Marcum motors  were prone to fail very often.jmo.id go with a new one.

I believe the LX5i has brighter lights and increased angle of view then the LX5..but believe both have brushed motor with many have had issues with ...from being whinny ...bottom bouncing issues and stop working.

i always pick newer tech over old no question about it. i'd go for the m series. they are getting rid on the non m series for a discount for a reason.

I've had the original LX5 for many years now. Since Sept 2, 2006. No problems. I use it on the ice, and for perch in the open water season. And still using original battery. I keep the battery in the refrigerator for storage. IT REALLY DOES MAKE THEM LAST. A friend of mine is on year 15+ with his battery. It in an old Zercom.

Edit I take that back. I do have one issue. One of the segments on the LCD charger works intermittently.  Only notice it when it reads 100%.

I’m kind of with what 3300 said in always going with newer tech. Does anyone have any experience with the supe fine line setting on the lx5i? This is really the only additional feature that I would be interested in. The only reason I would be getting the lx5i would be for the price. Same price as the new m3.. m3 is brand new this year just hope they don’t have issues with new units.

Does anyone feel that I should not pass up the lx5i for the m3. I know many people have said they have had problems with the lx5i?

Thanks again!

more on the dual beam. in weed beds you'll want narrow band. in shallow water w/o weeds you'll want wide band. in deeper water you'll want narrow band.
this is the time of year for deep discounts. if you can't find any, marcum always has 10% off for signing up with them.

you sound like me and that is you worry about missing features you might not know if you'll want them until it's too late. because of that, i suggest you try to get a deal on a lx6. once you get into the digital series you won't be missing any features other than gps if you don't have it on your phone or stand alone and if you use them or not.
only difference in the lx6 and 7 is screen size and 1/4 inch target separation. the lx7 can be upgraded for 500$ into the lx9 tho if a camera sounds like some else you might want on one screen later on. that was the way i went and started with the lx7 for those reasons and now own the lx9. going this way also saves some upfront money to get into their lx7 digital series. the lx6 can not be upgraded to the lx9.

also, this "brighter" feature. i don't like flashers and not being able to turn down the bright flashing lights at nite is the pits. digital displays allow you to turn down the backlight to 10%. it is so much more comfortable for low light and night time fishing.

they all come with a 2 year warranty. if you get the lx7 and upgrade it into the lx9 you get another 2 years.
i just wanted to point more out for you while the deals are still hot.
