Making the best of very little ice in Western Pennsylvania this year

Made 2nd trip to Presque Isle Bay Lake Erie yesterday with Buddy Captian54..to open water fish..great bite jigs tipped with small shiners .jigs tipped with wax worms was the trick for jumbo perch 2 limits of 30 each..7 foot of water...then we move to try our luck on gills... unrealistic bite any where you you dropped line was a bite  arms had a workout....water temp 37.  Air temp 50...2/27/17......no ice....made the best of no ice....this year...2 trips we put 120 perch in the boat....put back just as many  under  9"....

I "used to" ice fish in Western PA.  I went to PA every Feb and fished all month.  That was then.  Now, the time and money spent on a 1-2 week season just isn't worth it.    I'll save the frequent flier miles, gear money and logistics costs.  The time, effort and money will go into fly tying, fly fishing and Spring turkey hunting.

Yeah, I'll miss ice fishing.  But there is no more month of Feb in Western PA.  We get two Marches instead.  That makes me very sad...  But sometimes ya just gotta cut your losses.

1 time in 45 years not much ice ...not happy should be walking on water in February not in a boat but  ice this year sucked here in Western Pennsylvania....  was ready in November but. It did not freeze as we would like....we lost  many this year.i stayed off to be safe  to the ones we lost this year with the bad ice May they  RIP ..God Bless them and there family and friends....with bad ice...be safe
