last minute slabs
« on: Feb 05, 2017, 11:48 PM »
went east but not too far east.    fish were all over the vex but were not biting at all... we moved to another spot that looked promising, and once the sun went below the cottonwoods the fish turned on.   it was weird, they wouldn't hit on the bottom but about 6 inches to a foot below the ice.    caught a handful of nice legal keeper slabs and then left.   woulda caught more but we were hungry for ice cream.   fish were caught on small rattle traps literally bounced on the bottom edges of the ice hole in 5 feet.

Nice Dave, way to get on those slabs. How was shoreline there, open or still solid?

Healthy slabs! Sure is nice they put the 10" size limit on em up that way. Seeing the fruits of those size restrictions is nice.

Hers qualifies as slab. The other one, not so much.  I am used to MN crappies though, where 14" is not uncommon.

Good to know there are fish in there, made some trips this year with out any success to speak of.  Given me hope for a better day on the plains.

Only have convinced my wife to come along once, lasted under an hour but it was a very cold day in golden gate canyon.
