Water Wolf's Cool Runnings
« on: Jan 08, 2006, 09:05 PM »
This is the start of my ice fishing photos.

I made it out today for some ice fishing action.

I started my fishing at 12:00pm and 10 min into the day, I had a fish on. It turned out to be a chunky 5.21 lb pike according to the iceshanty calculator. :)
[That was all the action for today.

I packed up around 4:00pm. It was a bit breezy but for a bit, with some snow flurries but our temps are still better than normal. 8)

Thanks guys, yeah it's always nice to get out no matter what the fishing action is. With our unusually mild weather it's a treat.
Good luck guys with your icefishing adventures.

I decided that this year for my Birthday I would take a few days and go fishing. My fishing buddied and I left on my Birthday Feb 2nd and headed for Tobin Lake and the flats.
Along the way we encountered a nice heard of elk in a paddock, there was at least 60 of them in there all casually munching on hay and enjoying the mild winter weather.

We arrived on the Tobin Lake flats around 4:00pm and I set up for some action.

The action started at 6:00pm and the first fish was the biggest one of the entire trip.

I landed her with help from my fishing buddies. It was a nice healthy and chunky pike weighing in at 12.71 lbs and 32.5 inches long.

A quick photo with her and back she goes to fight another day. :flex:

Along the way home I stopped at another lake and found a few willing pike. It was mild -1 deg C to -5deg C but very windy, the tarp in the back ground is a temporary shelter we made over the truck to shelter ourselves from the wind. A few pike showed up on camera but none of them were to aggressive and only bumped the lures.

On this lake I found 3 pike. First one a 20 inch male followed by a 24 inch female and one more 20 inch male. I found them really shallow 3-5 feet of water. They were feeding exclusively on freshwater shrimp.

All in all it was a great trip and nice to be out with my fishing buddies for a few days enjoying our mild weather and nice scenery.

LOL, thanks alot everyone, yeah a good times for sure. :)
You guys are right that is defiantly an outside rod. It's my 7 foot medium action Shakespeare Ugly Stick and it's my main producer summer and winter. I weight the pale with a few bricks and place the rod in there as you would with a regular rod holder, works like a charm. ;D
It is defiantly not for in the shanty lol, a person would constantly be whacking there fishing partners, not good.

I went fishing yesterday and boy was it nice out there.
The morning started off chilly so I waited till noon to see what the temp would be like.
I took a photo of this neat frost pattern on the screen door window. It reminds me of a willow tree or other plant life, what do you guys see?

I got to the lake around 1:00pm and got all set up. I set up the underwater camera and got my homemade lure down to see how it looked under water. No sooner did it reach the bottom and I had a pike checking it out. It would swim around and nose the lure, at one point it grabbed the tail and hung on, I set the hook and she let go. I though that would be it but she came back and snuck up on the quivering lure from below and behind. She hit the lure and just stopped holding the lure in her mouth munching away on it like a dog with a bone. This time I really set the hook she and the pike was hooked. For a second she just slow came to the surface then she realized what happend and went wild stirring up the bottom and making the camera useless for a bit. After a short but intense fight I landed her, a nice 4lb pike.
A photo was take with me and the fish, but the batteries had died so could not get a photo with her and the tape measure. That was it for photos for the day.:P

Here is a photo of Me and the pike.

I had 8 more strikes that day, and every one was the same just hanging onto the bait, and by the time I got to them they had spit the lure or spooked.
I did mange to land 3 more pike that day a 3 lber and a chunky 5 lber. All these fish were stuffed full of freshwater shrimp and you could see hundreds of them all the time the camera was down. The fish came in 10 feet of water. 8)

Here is a photo of my homemade lucky lure. It is similar to a Lindy fuzzy grub but is bigger, bulkier and has a peacock eye feather on each side instead of marabou.

The other lucky lure were smelts.

All in all it was a good day, I caught some fish, had nice weather and got my exercise chasing fish. Tomorrow I will try some of them, they should be good if they were eating shrimp. ;D
