Smeltys Chronicles
« on: Jan 05, 2017, 04:50 PM »
So I wanted to start a thread to share with others my fishing endevors. I will start with My first trip of the year. Sunday I went out on St. Albans bay with my son to just check to see if there was enough ice for my buddies four wheeler. We did not fish for long only about two hours and caught a handful of small perch most of them under 8 inches.

On Monday I fished St. Albans bay again down closer to the bridge. Between me and my buddy we caught 3/4ths bucket of perch and about a handful of pike our largest being about 30 inches.

Wednesday I stopped by the Bay again on my way home from work and fished for about a half hour, didn't expect much but was able to catch 4 or 5  eight inchers.

Today, Thursday I had a quick stop at Carmi as I was out in Berkshire that morning for work. Only fished for about an hour and was able to catch 5 in 23 fow. Sent one of them back and kept the other four all over 10 inches. Plan to get out on Saturday and will update with how it goes!

So i have not updated here as i posted a new post on my monster pike i caught last week. I was able to get out Yesterday and made the trek to Mago and met a friend there to do some smelt fishing. We did alright catching a couple meals of smelt. Did not have much luck on tip ups only catching a couple small 7-8 inch perch. Highlight of the day was catching a master angler chain pickerel. Not a monster but just met the min length.

Made the drive down to the Calais area on Sunday. Was a slow day but was able to jig up this nice 16.5in rainbow.  Between the 3 of us we caught 3 rainbow and a brown.

Beauty of a Bow Smelty! Some day I'm going to catch one through the ice. I think that I had a monster rainbow break me off on Caspian a couple years ago. Might be looking for revenge there this coming weekend.
Perch bait- a small minnow that can have big results in the ice fishing game.  :icefish:
