took a ride 24 miles to the SW to a pond i have never fished before. Mass wildlife maps totally wrong. supposedly no more than 10' deep. i found spots at 17'.
got there about 8am. walk on no problem. ice was very very soft. the 30 yr old eskimo sportsman went thru 6" of ice like butter. maybe 3 seconds..uh oh..
set up in 7 to 10 FOW, medium shiners
constant flags from 815 to 930, 2 or three up at a time. all mini slime darts. i moved out of the area and found constant 17 FOW. the darts subsided.
jig stick was difficult, plenty of fish on the fish finder but they would not bite meal worm and fish chunks. only a bass and perch finally bit.
around 1 pm a flag went up and it felt like a pin bass on the end. slowly pulled it in while feeling some tugging. turns out to be a 8lb branch dragging on the bottom...arrgghh!!
the sun came out about 1130 and by 2 as i walked the ice flexed a bit around the holes. not often i can make 6" of ice flex
tally for the day, 6 slime darts, 2 bass, crappie and a perch
a few pics
crapty ice
tilt fish
jig fish
with rain and warm temps i think we may be starting over this week aaarrgghh!
