My wife asked if sonar was legal. lol. My step son said he thought it was cheating. One sentence before saying he wanted a flasher.

Sure, I like using my fish finder, but if I left it at home I wouldn't drive back to get it.

X2............I still carry a depth sounder, just in case.

I've had a Vex Genz Pack FL-8 for a few years now and only replaced the battery once. I've gotten great service from my machine and wouldn't trade it for any other. I just put a carb kit in my Jiffy model 30 after 35 yrs. A couple of spark plugs a piece of fuel line and a carb kit is not to much to ask from any machine owner over 35 yrs. time... Everybody have many tight lines all season... Al

Just picked up a Lowrance® Hook-4x Ice Machine after going blind on our very first ice fishing outing. We got skunked last weekend. Something tells me that in two week, things are going to be different . :)

.        U still have to know how to fish, they tell u that you are not smart enough to catch them. It's not like flipping a switch and they jump out of the hole!  The more you use it the better you will get with it!!

Great unit  I have the 4 as well. Graph mode, fastest ping speed and amplitude scope are a must. Good luck

hello, am I correct in that when I setup my Marcum flasher and I see my top mark and then my depth, anything between the 2 is a fish?
also what is all the clutter from the bottom up the left side of the flasher? Also if the mark where I see the bottom starts breaking off and heading up toward my bait is this a fish. sorry but still figuring this thing out. I know it shouldn't be rocket science.

thats about right.  sonar goes farther down than just the surface.  so those reading will tell whats going on below the bottom too.  hard bottom is a small return, soft bottom is a larger red bar.  and then all that other stuff is just odd ball readings.   anything between the top and bottom can be alot of things.   could be brush, could be fish.   what i find is that on your marcum,  anything that is a solid object will obviously just sit there,  its so sensitive that any fish should be a bit blinky.  the edges of the mark will flicker almost.

I had to tough it out for a lot of years until I could afford one. Then when I finally bought one, I thought I was crazy spending that kind of money for ice fishing! That was January 1998 when I bought my Vexilar FL8.
AND NOW!!!
Almost 20 years later, it still works like new and still using the original battery! It will be worth the wait when you get one!!!
