My uncle would fish for trout up in the NEK.  He lived on Seymour but fished all over.  I was amazed at the rainbow and brown he would catch on the lakes there with night crawlers.   Usually in water less than 15 ft.  I fished with him and everyone would always go out deep and look at us like we were crazy but we usually caught fish.  Nowadays it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying shiners.

Yeah they work for trout and perch/panfish. If you cut a big enough hole you could probably troll them for walleyes!  @)

My favorite bait for rainbows is crawlers just under the ice in 2' to 4' of water

I put them in a lunch cooler to keep them from freezing. In short, yes, they work as well in winter as they do in summer.
May the fish be with you.

Dont joke around lest the crawler producers ("Big Crawler")
Will grease the palms of our legislators to pass a law.
Saying you cant pick your own crawlers because they
Help aerate the soil and are good for the ground runnoff.
The price will then be 10 bucks a dozen. ::)

I dont know about Vermont but in New York, You can buy some decent worms at Wal Mart, They also Have red worms which I use in the summer for monster blue gills. Also Butter worms which are great for perch. Check it out.

I feed my worms on coffee and high cholesterol feed- caffeine makes them super-active and the fattening feed makes them bulk up to attract fish . I used to use only worms who smoked several packs a day, until the wussy feds stepped in with regulations.

Those smoking crawlers were the best.
