He did it again
« on: Jan 07, 2017, 05:50 PM »
My fishing partner is my son age 15, we sit about 2 feet apart from each other and I could not catch a fish and he was hammering them. I changed jigs and still could not even try to catch him. I had a fancy meat stick pole and he was using a $10 HT Ice blue. We both have the same line. Fishing deeper than we normally do at about 20' using a 19 deg transducer which I think made it harder for me to see the jig.

We drill three holes and put transducer in the middle, makes it interesting but to cheap to buy another flasher.

Had fun today but could not figure out what he was doing but it worked, I was pretty proud of him he has really caught on to the sport.

I sometimes get the hot hole 3 feet away from the wife and sometimes she has it. Try fishing the other side of the person instead of staying next to them.

I keep telling folks that if your fishing buddy is out fishing you all things being equal. Take a look at how they are holding their mouths!

Just to put some doubt into that situation ~  what if there's an open topped barrel or drum you're fishing in.    Cameras help with that too.     ;)2

Would be interesting to see with a camera. Maybe his jig was closer to some type of structure? Maybe he is better at making the jig twitch a little more or less?

Have him bring a friend that he can show the ropes to, and then he'll be the one getting skunked!

Actually, I don't mind catching less than a fishing partner if they are new to the sport and it brings them joy!

I think that sometimes it is the direction that the fish are coming in from, if his is the first jig they see he catches the fish. Try moving to the other side of him. Even if it is your son or daughter dad doesn't like to get totally smoked by them :)

.             It's called "bait presentation " he was doing something the fish liked, even though u didn't notice it. Don't take much of a change it's the cadence!!

I have seen it a few times with open water fishing. If you gas the truck or boat up. That slight smell of gas on
your hands may make a difference.  But, who really knows.

I'm old now but when I was in my single digits my Dad would just be happy re-baiting my hooks - I figured out why.

Let the kid do the work and smile and watch him glow - The memories will out last any fish fry flavor...
Trust me, when the Zamboni driver says "You won't catch fish through that hole", he knows of what he speaks.

I was pretty proud of him, he gets up at 4:00 am and helps load the car. Then he normally sleeps on the way to the lake. I just hope he continues to go with me and does not lose interest.

We have thought about getting a camera, but I think money spent on a new flasher would help us. There are times when our lines get pretty twisted up.

Enjoy every minute of fishing together. My son was my fishing partner for years for perch/walleye, steelhead, crappie, and ice fishing. He has now grown up and lives a good distance from me. Those were the best days of fishing.

Kids hands don't stink.  I wash my hands with baking soda before each trip. If I forget I use bait scent.  If I don't have that I slime them and my jig on the first fish. Call me paranoid but I catch fish... most of the time.
