Great day on Silver Lake Saturday
« on: Jan 09, 2017, 12:53 AM »
Finally got out to go for some Lakers this season with a buddy. Went to Silver Lake up in Madison (6-7 inches) for the day. Great to have his snowmobile so we could bounce round every hour or so. Both our first days with our new flashers and boy were those a game changer! I landed 8 Lakers, biggest was 20", felt like it was over 5lb when fighting it but it was gut hooked. Lost 2, one 12 feet from the hole (felt decent), also caught a small perch and this smelt below. Pretty surprised the little guy hit this spoon much larger than him. At about 3:15-3:45 I caught 4 Lakers from one hole with this new Clam Flutter Spoon (boy were they right on hit being deadly). Must have drilled a lucky hole for the last one of the day because the smelt were running all over the place and the lakers were chasing hard. Def going to mark that spot for future fishing days! All fish caught released and we were in 38-55 fow for all fish caught.

Indeed! In search of my PB every time. First goal is to hit 25", then 30". Hoping my Maine trip in 2 weeks fulfills at least the 25"!

Nice Job!!  I wouldn't post  a picture of a baited treble hook  or use one in NH waters..... That could cost you some cash and maybe your fishing privileges

It wasn't bait, it was his catch! Pretty sure it's a keeper too!

READ the post people lol don't just look at a picture and start telling me the regs/laws. I know them, and I sure as hell wouldn't be dumb enough to post that online (even though people are).

Seems like there are a lot more photos of people jigging up smelt this year. Anyone else noticed a lot more in the lakes? I know someone posted that F&G found a lot more in there surveys this year.

Looks like a great day!  Now I've seen some pretty tiny fish caught on lures, wondering how the heck they got their mouths around the treble, but I think your smelt there takes the cake!!
