For those who have updated to the newest version, what are you running on your settings?;

Just got mine in the mail today and was playing around in the simulator mode. What's everyone's favorite settings.

Mine came with the newest version. What's the new changes with the update?

The first thing to do is set it up with 6 colors on a black background.

Use the charting mode, you are wasting the power of the unit if you just simulate a flasher.  I set mine up with a chart and a vertical bar full depth view.  The vertical bar lets you follow the jig down and will also show a laker chasing it back up even if it is too high to see on the chart (which is on bottom zoom) . I turn the dashboard off - wastes screen space.  On the chart I set it to scroll slow (ping rate I think) and put it on a bottom zoom, either 5' or 10' depending on if there are weeds and how high the fish are coming up.

I have been running mine on the oxymoronic manual dynamic range mode.  I use open water mode, never play around with target, and turn the gain up until I can see my jig moving.  It might be anywhere from 5 to 20, depending on depth.  In deeper water I use 8 degree, in shallower 20.

I haven't upgraded to the latest firmware yet, waiting to see what others think.

I definitely liked the chart feature when I was playing around with it yesterday.

Thanks buz, lots of help for a new guy.

the 5.10 update removed open water and ice modes and replaced them with modes 1 and 2. mode 1 was open water mode used for shallow water up to about 10 feet of water.

Funny...i think the charting mode is a waste of power.  Everyone says its great to see what was there. I don't care what WAS there, i care whats there right now....

Having the chart up allows you to quickly refer back to what your recent jigging cadence WAS prior to seeing what is there right now.  That bit of info proved to be invaluable last year on lock jawed fish.

I actually got to try mine on the ice the other day since downloading the newest update. I was fishing 13 ft of water. Used mode 1 or whatever they are calling it now, manual dynamic, with ping speed at 2, sensitivity at 4, vertical display and vertical zoom on along with chart display and gauges off. I could see my jig starting at around 2 ft down, using a very small jig, waxie combo. I didn't mess around with it to much as I didn't have much time to fish. Hopefully I can fine tune some things later in the season.

thanks for the update! sounds like it's down to 2 feet missing for the jig.
it's suggested to use a ping rate of 1 on ice. so give that a go too. your mode 1 is for under 10 feet of water.

Ya I maybe could have messed around a little more and gotten it tuned in a little better. I just wanted to fish while I was out there since I didn't have much time. If I remember right I was using it with 8 degree cone angle for the most part. I did try 20 but not for long. Just mostly making sure the new update was working, that it hadn't messed anything up before we get better ice and I hit it full throttle.

dab65 thats the exact setup I caught all my fish on last year, if I was in deeper water or prospecting I would go to the 20 degree angle and scoot to the fish. Youre right on it now buddy, you will be giggling like a fool when you see that first fish come up to the jig and slam it.
Chart mode also tracks the wierdo fish swimming through at 4' deep when youre at 20' on the crappie.

Flasher mode is kind of retro christmas tree, lots of pretty colors, I just use the vertical zoom the most.

I got a chance to use it a little more the other day. I had it on gain 1 and 8 degree cone in 13 ft of water, worked fine. When I switched to 20 degree cone my graph and vertical went to zero and didn't show bottom or my jig until I cranked up the sensitivity. Any one else have this happen when using gain 1? I will have to try using gain 2 a little more tomorrow and see what happens.

Who said mode one is for 10' or less? I've been curious as to what mode one and mode two are and can't find any info on it. I understand there use to be ice mode and open water mode and that has changed. There is now mode 1 and 2. But what the heck are they and what's what?! I can't believe Marcum hasn't posted any info on this. I noticed out on the ice that that with one of the modes ( not sure which one) everything looked bigger and I had to readjust the sensitivity and target ID.

marcum said (3 years ago) open water mode is for the shallow water work around for missing the jig in 2.5 feet of water. they have changed the names of those modes. i don't have the lx6 or 7 and i do have the lx9 that still has the old names to those modes. i was told mode 1 was ice mode and mode 2 was open water mode.  if you updated your firmware, you have modes 1 and 2 now instead.

open water or mode 2 only lowers the return gain of the sonar is all. ice mode or mode 1 is the normal return gain for the sonar. adjust it how you like it and what works for you.
if i am wrong about the modes numbers, it's because i am using what was told to me. just reverse them so you know. you can see the difference they make. ice mode has a stronger gain and you have to turn down the sensitivity after switching over to it from open water mode. open water modes shows more blues and yellows and a lot less reds and orange return lines.

just keep the ducer center in the hole always so the ping return isn't rejected by the ice.

marcum is being quiet about the firmware change for some reason. as far as i know they didn't update the manual either to match the firmware change.

Yes like Buckshots said. I have been using mine in mode 1 and fishing 13 ft and more. It seems to work good for me, although I haven't tried the other mode yet.
