Marcums interfering with each other, any fix?
« on: Dec 24, 2016, 01:48 PM »
So I have a Marcum VX1i, the newest model, and my buddy has and old model VX1. We were out together yesterday, 40' of water with lots of brush/trees, and we could not get the interference to clear up from his machine. Is there a "trick" or sequence that we should follow to get these to clear up?

I tried, like the manual says, just hitting the IR on one machine to clear it up, and I was able to get mine good enough that it would have been usable, but his was going crazy. He ended up having the move away from me, far enough that I couldn't chirp at him as I caught fish and get him all wound up, which is part of the fun.

Any help is appreciated.

Turn the gain down on both units until you barely see your lure on the screen.  You may need to turn it down to where you don't even see your lure until you move or jig it.  If you had an lx5 or higher, you could select a narrower transducer band to help reduce the interference.

I have had a TON of problems with interference from my buddys Marcum VX-1. I tried to get him a Vexilar fl8 and he refused... Man I don't like fishing around that thing. I upgraded to the Fl-22 HD by Vex and im hoping to drown that Vx-1 out this winter.....

My son and I each have an LX5. When in the same shack I can usually clear up any interference with one or two taps of the IR button, doesn't make much difference if on wide or narrow beam. Perhaps these newer models just have better IR systems.

That's kind of what I was thinking, maybe his older unit doesn't have as good IR as mine does. It was probably designed around the lower power that his puts out.

Good to know I'm likely not "doing it wrong", I'll try lower gain, normally we are in shallower water, thinking that can only help. Will try again in a different spot, this was the first time we had them both out.

I have a HB Ice35 I can bring out but after buying this Marcum I don't know if I want to any more.

Try using his to get rid of his Interference and then when his is gone press yours once.

Going to be tough to get rid of it all though since they are 20deg cones. Should be able to get it fishable though.

A trick we do when its an issue. Have the newer unit under the ice and the older unit just a few inches under the water.  This trick allowed me to see clearly at the brainerd jaycee event.  Where i was sharing water side by side with about 3k flashers.

Thanks, I'll try this, and Kevin's suggestion next time we are out if there are problems.
