Good for you. The grandson got a lowrance hook3x for a gift. Not the best but enough to get his feet wet. He is 12 but loves jigging

Excellent choice!! I use mine in Real Time Sonar (RTS) mode! You can see the fishing coming up off bottom to check out your offering! Way better than the circular flasher mode!  You won't be disappointed!
