Jiffy 44pro or pro 4?
« on: Dec 21, 2016, 07:09 PM »
So I'm looking at buying a new auger very soon and have pretty much decided on getting a jiffy propane 9 or 10" auger. Now  I'm having a heck of a time finding much info on the new jiffy 44 pro, has anyone used one yet and how do you like it? Has anyone used the new 44 pro and the pro 4 how do they compare? If you were buying one which would you pick?  Thanks for any help!

I have the pro 4 and I don't like the stx blade.  I'm actually removing the two teeth around the point to prevent freeze up.  I also don't like the weight.  The Pro44 looks to be lighter 5lbs or so and it doesn't have the stx blade. That said I would try the pro44.

Personally if I were in the market for a new auger I would get an ION 10" (for weight), Eskimo Z51 10", or maybe a strikemaster honda 4 stroke, but with a 10" chipper bit.  chipper bits are slower to cut but more durable in the shallow water fishing I do.

I had a jiffy 3 hp with the stx blade and bought it new. Worst purchase I have ever made.  If I coulda fit it down the hole it would have been gone 10 times over.

The ions look great and so does that new drill mounted vexilar model.

I scored a nils 8" with a Tanaka power head.   I'd buy that again in a heartbeat.  It weights 18 pounds and cuts like lightning.  Otherwise I'd do a nils and a drill.

I would highly recommend the Eskimo HC40 10".
