Mickey Mouse boots..
« on: Feb 01, 2007, 08:55 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of Mickey Mouse boots. I called a couple of places and they were sold out. I live in K-ville so I can go south to Ft. Wayne or north to Angola. I figured somewhere in Angola might have them but I'm not very familiar with the bait shops and stores there. A sale would also be nice if anyone knows of any place. I'm going to call the Angler tomarrow but I'm not sure if they have them. Thanks for any help....

G.I. Joes Army surplus in Fort Wayne on Wells Street.  I know for fact they have the black ones and the white ones.

Busco Bait and Tackle off of US 33 adjacent to Blue Lake has a few pairs.

Hope this helps...Thought about going with a pair a few years ago, but went with a lighter pair of pack boots from Cabela's; no regrets on the decision, Mickies are heavy.

Ebay, bought my first pair for $35 on there.  The first pair were to narrow, 13N, and crushed my feet.  I then got back on ebay and bought one size bigger, size 14, for $14.  Both still with the tags on them from like 1978.

I know of 2 places in the Fremont area that have the mickey boots Tri-state baits, and a place called the Hunters outlet in the outlet mall by the pickel store, Tri- state is $100 a pair and the outlet is $90. Get them off e-bay.

Pretty much the same here. Got a brand new pair for $40.00 on Ebay from an Army surplus store in Michigan. Get the white ones if you can. They are warmer than the black ones.

Would the Army surplus store in North Webster have them?

Be careful of what you buy, they don't make them like they used to.  My first pair had the air valves so you could adjust the volume.
They were considerably more bulkier and overall better made.  The newer ones I have seen are not what I had. Thus the lower price of less than $100.  You really need to find a military surplus store and look at them, try to find a pair that look worn, they are usually the older style.
The ones I had, you could just wear normal gym socks on the coldest days.  When I finally needed to replace them, I was skeptical with the ones I could find, I went with a LaCrosse Pack Boot which was the closest thing I could find to the old Micky's. I have been even more happier with the LaCrosse.  If you get a pair, keep Armor All on them and DO NOT store them in your attic!!

Good Luck and let us know what you find.

Maybe so but the ones I got on Ebay have the air valves and the original instructions on how to use them.  And I've used them and my feet don't get cold.

The air valves don't mean a thing don't even bother with them. What you do need to look at is if the boot's are Bata's there are many knock-off mickeys but the Bata's are the real deal just look on the sole of the boot if there's not a Bata label don't buy them.

I was under the impression that the knock offs didn't have the air valves according to one of the orginal posters. that's why I brought that up. I got my orginal ones from the Air Force when I was in the ANG in Ft. Wayne. I'll have to take a look at the soles but they sure look and work like my originals. The instructions were U.S. Military too.

taxidermist: I have seen knock- offs on e-bay that still had the air valves. I only meant that for ice fishing the air valves are not funtional.

Gottcha! I now think I have knock offs. My feet got cold today. Never had them get cold in the real Mickies from the Air Force.  :(

But it was brutal out there today!

I would make sure I bought the white ones. Read the adds. Should be more insulation in the white ones. They are a little more expensive.

I ended up getting a pair in Angola at the surplus. I paid 75 bucks but they are the white bata miltary originals and I took a 9R when I normally wear a 10. They are like brand new. I think I did ok cause I know what I was getting and know they fit right. Plus I got them right away. I noticed some sizes are hard to find on ebay. They only had one 9Reg in white and they were $125 for the batas. I know there are some a lot cheaper but I bet some are knock offs cause there are french, chinese, military that look the same but are only rated for  0 degrees. The white batas are rated for
-40 degrees. And the black which are about half the price are rated for -20degrees. I went out Last friday and for 4hrs today and my feet never got cold. Hey you get what you pay for. and what the hell, they'll probably last me the rest of my life. and my feet staying warm are worth the 75bucks to me! Thanks for all the advice.  ;D

the good ole USAF gave me my first pair of black extreme cold weather boots. of coruse they had the air valve which is to be "ONLY OPENED IN FLIGHT" because of the air pressure differance, the higher you go in a unpressurized aircraft the lower the air pressure and if the valve is closed the air in the boot would expand and the boot would tighten on your foot, they are to be closed on the ground. had mine for 20 plus years now and are just now starting to weather crack, when you put them away for the warm weather spray with armor all and store in a cool dry place not a hot garage. i bought a pair of white ones 6 years ago at the army store in north webster, they have both types.
the number one stop bait shop on 13 north of Pierceton  has both types   ;)
