Bricker Bugs
« on: Jan 29, 2018, 08:14 PM »
I was wondering what techniques and set ups guys use while fishing these baits. I have heard so much talk on the ice about them but have not yet used them. I did purchase a handful today and want to give them a shot this weekend. Just looking for a good push in the right direction.

You have to purchase a microliner, only good way to "work" them.  Have to wait till next year to get one though!

I believe that is the pole (microliner ) that the gentlemen said he was using. It caught my eye while he was just whipping the rod in different directions at a high rate of speed. Stopped fishing for 5 or so minutes to watch him pull up one fish after another as we were all in the slump of the day. Was very interesting technique and had not seen that violently shaking of a rod before. Wore me out just watching him.

Yes the micro liner is a “bricker” custom rod. Bricker bugs are good jigs, and have caught fish with and without bait. Can’t say for me they’ve caught more fish than other jigs i have. But do use them once in awhile, and use them just like other jigs. Maybe I’m not catching many cuz I don’t have the right rod. Lol

LMAO....you don't need a 150.00 microliner to use his lures.  Biggest mistake most people make is not tying the right knot and not placing it on the hook eye correctly to make sure the lure is as horizontal as possible.  Any limp or noodle rod (even a 8.00 ice blue) can be used to work the bait.  The bait works best when given a lot of action, but at times the action needed varies day to day or even during the same day.  You have to experiment to see what the fish want.  Light line is important too.  2lb or less would be best.  They are not 'magic' lures.  You have to be around fish to catch them and many times there are lots of lures that will catch them including his bugs.  Floss flies, larvae lace flies, abomb jigs all work equally well in most cases as long as they are horizontal.

Sarcasm man!  Whatever you do with those Brickers, just make sure you have some Kahtoola Micro Spikes on your truck if you take them to Spear lake on an icy day!

Wax is right nothing majic about the bug or the pole but both are works of art.  It's all about presentation!

I knew you were joking....

As for spear my truck is getting close to needed a new set of tires.  I think with this cold snap if we get some snow that gets packed into solid ice, it might be time to travel to spear to relive some memories.  You want to ride along?  There should be an open seat!      :afro: :icefish:

I'm always up for a ride!  Had a friend on there a couple weeks ago, they got some fish.  I haven't been on it this year.  Not sure if some of those monster reds still exist or not.

That one time is the only time I have ever been on any of those lakes in Tri county.  I might not ever make it back there!  LOL.

Ok guys you've got my attention.  Where could someone wanting to try the bricker bugs, purchase them.  Can they be order via the net?

No...you have to call him direct or find them at some of the local shops.  Google it or search for it on FB.

Bricker Custom Rods on FB.  Bugs don't last long in the bait shops but check with Pro Tackle in Fort Wayne.

I’ve caught perch on them when they wouldn’t bite other baits. They ones I have are smaller than I like so I don’t use them to much. But they were a gift so I can’t complain.

LMAO, somehow I missed that one!  It's amazing how you can take something that's been around a long time, repackage it, apply some marketing and Wah Lah, more job security than you want!
I don't mind doing some fly's for myself and my friends but forget that mass production crap!  Couldn't talk me into it even for $4 a hook.

You should get some, they are deadly on Walters!
