Has anyone ever had to use an auger extension here in Pennsylvania?  If so what size did you buy?

I remember fishing Walker lake one year - maybe 10- 12 years ago.  Ice was close to 20".  I don't remember having to drill through anything thicker than that here in pa.  Didn't need an extension.

Extension have become pretty popular because of the number of people running the Clam plate... An extension puts the motor higher so it is more comfortable to run. Not necessarily an ice thickness thing these days..

I doubt you would ever need one due to ice thickness..

Oh I would literally cry tears of joy if I needed to use the 18" extension here that I brought back with me from Alaska.  Lol

I'm with you Pal.  I remember about six years ago when we got hardly any snow and had a great ice season we were drilling through through 22 inches of ice, that's the closest I've ever come to having to use an extension.  I started thinking about this the other night and was thinking if I was going to get one I might as well as get the eighteen inch extension, just get the biggest and be done with it.  But from a practical point of view there's no chance of ever needing an eighteen inch extension here but a twelve maybe and even that's not much.
