Best bobber stops?
« on: Dec 06, 2016, 07:25 PM »
What's your opinion on the best bobber stops? Some fray, some come loose, some tangle... any personal favorites?

They go through the line guides well, not getting caught up and slipping?

They go through the guides (they arent physically much difference in size  than a dacron nail knot) and they are rubber so they grip good. I used them on a 14' rod throwing a 3 OZ bobber, 1 OZ egg weight and a glob of eggs about 70-90 yards fishing for springers and they stayed in place. The only reason i used them ice fishing is for line markers.

Haven't tried on 2# but I think they will, the hole in the stop is VERY small. You have to use the wire to pull the line threw it.

I purchased some of these at a the boat show in Indianapolis this year, they didn't hold worth a dam on my long rods when casting for pannies. I would bet that they would slip from catching on the eyelets when reeling in fish.

I just saw my box of there bobbers and stops when I was in the garage yesterday. I have various sizes of these. Unless they have improved them from when I purchased them years ago they do not hold. Their bobbers are brittle and break easily. Hope fully they have improved their products.

OOOPS I just read Firefighters post. I guess they have not improved them.

I use a Dacron bobber stop that stays in place and is small enough that it does not hang up in the snake guides of the fly rods I use pan fishing. I think it is made some where in Michigan.

I like the tie on kind. Some brands work better than others. I cant say which brand im using now.  Sometimes I tie 2 on right away. So if 1 fails. I have a back up. On  braided line. I always use 2. 1 seems to slip. I have tried the dog bone kind . They didnt work as well !

The only way I have found to get them to work is pass the line through twice, like a loop! They are less adjustable that way, but work better. Still a PITA!!

I like the rubber ones, too.  But have used all kinds.  Use Venom slip bobbers.  A trick, if you haven't heard it, use 2 bobber stops a few inches apart.  Then you can tell if your stop has slipped.

just my two cents but I tried teh rubber ones this year and hated them. I immediately had problems while fishing for gills. Hinder casting and the rubber caught on the guides. I like the tie ons. imo

Tried the rubber ones and they seem to hold better.  I'm still having thE issue of once the bobber stop gets to the last eyelet it catches and creates backlash in my inline reels (bb 6061 and no8 cgi). I'm thinking this will happen regardless of stop type with inlines. Inlines for jigging and spinning reels for bobbers?

The best ones I've found are made by a guy we rent a lake cottage from in Michigan. They are called the grabber bobberstops and come in different sizes for different line weights. They are all hand tied. By far the best ones I have ever used. Not sure if they are available online though

You are probably correct.
