GPS & Lake Map All-in-One
« on: Aug 11, 2016, 08:51 PM »
I'm looking for an all-in-one GPS and lake map unit to mount on my ATV.  I've been looking at the Helix 5's, but then I'd have to buy multiple lake map chips for Minnesota/Wisconsin/Indiana/Michigan/Erie that would end up costing more than the machine itself!

Anyone have any advice?  I'm looking to spend a max of $400 for the unit and topo map chips.  I need to buy a ram-mount for it, so that'll probably run another $100.

Pics of your set-up are ALWAYS welcome.

Minnesota ice fishing trip is only 4 short months away!

Just buy the Navionics Plus for the helix 5 . It covers the whole US and Canada.

The Navionics+ chip has a few really rough reviews on Amazon. Anyone have experience?  Anywhere to search specific lakes to ensure they are on there?

What about a Garmin  e trex 20x ? For 199.99 maps for lakes are about 199 to 150 and the ram mount cost I think I paid 39.99 for it...

Unless you need the fish finder too then skip what I just wrote.. if you got a fish finder and just need gps can't beat garmin e trex 20 and 30 for the price.. but if you need a fish finder and gps etc that is a tuff one..

I don't need the fish finder, but in an ideal world I could take this unit and use it as a front/rear unit for the boat in spring.  I definitely want a large screen (6" diagonal?)

Me I would wait 3 maybe 4 months if you could black Fridays not far off... its what November 25-26.. that's what the best deals appear on fish finders... plus it will give time to save for one if any thing??  Seen the helix 5 go for cheap last year at bass pro most likely same this year???
