Draining Peacham Pond
« on: Feb 17, 2016, 06:18 PM »
Does anyone know what month they usually lower the water level on Peacham Pond? They certainly drop it way down. The shanties on this pond are going to have a rough time getting off the ice this year.

I fished it last week and appeared it had already been drained. Marshfield, Wrightsville and others also get drained down
must be careful getting on at times.

What I saw yesterday looked like they dropped the water down maybe eight feet or more. I was hoping someone here might know when they started and finished this drain down. Also wanted to know if they typically drain it down this much or if this was possibly a "knee-jerk" reaction to last years deep snow. Thanks.

Why don't they do it before ice?  Why do they do it at all?

They do it to collect the spring run-off water thus reducing the amount of water that would be flowing down the streams and rivers each spring for flood control measures.
