Old ice

Question for you guys. If a lake had a protected area that kept 2-3 inches of bad ice after the warm up, would it get better with the cold weather or does good ice have to form underneath it?

It will "stiffen" up the "old" ice, but with the temps that forecasted the rest of this week, should be good to go with a spud out front!!   It will add good ice to what is already there, hope the snow goes easy on us!  Watch the edges, still might be a little iffy!!
