Vexilar Ultra Pack swing arm mod
« on: Dec 17, 2010, 11:53 AM »
Ultra packs come with a  eye bolt you can screw in but when in the unit it doesn't fit in a five gallon bucket and you have to keep removing it when you want to put it in the bucket.  Here is my swing arm design when I don't want to use the float.  Took apart the rod holder and used it for the swing out arm.  Fin

Looks good Fin.  Hows that 22HD treating ya?  I bought an FL-20 last year......kinda wish I would have waited, but then again, I love the 20.

With all of the fishing I do under 60 feet, the 22 with the tri-ducer is unbelievable!  That's all I can say!  Don't regret spending the money one bit! Fin

Thats awesome.  I dont think I have ever fished over 50' of water.  There are some lakes to the north of me that get extremely deep.  Will I ever fish them?  I dont know.  Thats my biggest hangup with selling the 20 and getting the 22.  The unknown! lol.

Just figured I'd bring this up in the posts.  See alot of Vexilar guys who don't use the float like I do.  This arm works great.  It swings out of the way when you want to put the vex in the bucket and you can adjust it around the hole without having to always move the vex.  Fin

Nice mod. You should get it cera-coated black, would look cool and prevent rust.

Cheers!!

Hey Fin! Thanks for the great mod. I saw it a couple weeks back and thought it was a great idea so I decided to make one last week. I called vexilar to see how much a swing arm like on the FS1000 would cost. They said around $5 but shipping would be $5 and I didn't even know how I would mount it to my ultra pack. So I decided to go ahead and purchase an extra rod holder and modify it like Fin did. I couldn't find an eye bolt quite long enough but this one will work. I had some black surgical tubing so I decided to slide that on the bolt. I though it turned out well. Thanks for the idea, FIN! Really this time of the year when we have over 2 ft of ice and a foot to 18" of snow on top of the ice, I have to let so much transducer cord downto get below the ice it doesn't really matter whether I use the float or the eyebolt... fish are still gonna get wrapped up in it. I jus have to pull the unit out of the water I guess. At least I won't have to deal with the float "floating" around in the hole and messing with my jiggin motion ;D.
