First time fishing clear lake
« on: Jan 11, 2016, 03:31 PM »
I am heading to clear lake Saturday. Never been there and never fished for yellows. Any help with catching yellows at clear would really help. I have heard that the small lake has been productive

I think I'll be out there Saturday and I could help you get on some fish if you'd like

Ventura lake (small lake) has lots of contours now after it was dredged. Yellows have been hitting really good on the shallow side of the contours (10-14ft). The bite has been shutting off from about 10-3, but early and late it's been really good.

You can check out the current contour map here:

Navionics App for your smart phone is the best way and only costs 5.99 for the USA.  It has every lake in every state including the dredge cuts of Ventura.  You could spend thousands on hand held maps or pay this one time fee for this simple download.

It doesnt have every lake, but it has most big ones. Useful for putting gps points on lakes as well, even if there are no contours. Well worth the cost.

So most of the permanent shacks I'm sure are set up along the dredge? Where is the best place to enter the small lake?

Mcintosh is good but was FULL today.  Gotta get there early.  I counted 80 shacks and a bunch of pickups going all crazy in the little lake today.  Lorenzen is also good to launch if you have an ATV.  Yellows are aggressive and fun and the good year class was 6-7 inches last year and they are 8-9 inches this year.

Crappies are good in spots too.....deeper water.  Having trouble with patterning the walleyes thus far this winter.
