Ashfield ice
« on: Jan 13, 2016, 05:46 PM »
Fished a few hours on 3.5" of rock-solid black ice in Ashfield yesterday. Got a mess of small rainbows and some micro perch on spoons. I'm guessing that the other spots in that area are ready or darn close.

Remember that early ice is dangerous and should always be treated as such. Ashfield has swirling current and while i was on good ice there are still spot there, like many lakes and ponds, that you'll go right through while surrounded by safe ice on all sides. Pics to come, maybe.

no snow on the ice looks great, i have a feeling despite the 45mph winds today, the white stuff will be hiding hazards tomorrow when I am out. good work

It was certainly hiding the dog pile hazard in my yard that i found this morning. I think you might be pleasantly surprised though. Lot of wind, no chance for any to melt and ice like glass should mean a lot of it blew off.

Thanks! I would think by this weekend you should have your pick of any of the small water up there. The bigger spots took a beating from the rain and wind, but Ashfield made 3+ plus between when the rain stopped on Sunday and i got there Tuesday morning. Spoke to someone that lived on the lake and said that on Sunday there was open water where I was fishing, and I was on 3" plus solid. Good luck!
