Anyone ever caught a Tiger Muskie at Parvin?
« on: Jan 15, 2016, 07:06 AM »
We went up to try Parvin (one of the Red Feather lakes) yesterday.  Never been there before.  I was surprised to see the sign at the entrance saying that possession of one Tiger Muskie 36" or longer is allowed.  I was very surprised to see that.

We threw everything we had in the tackle box and didn't catch anything, but we did mark a couple of what seemed to be large fish.  Just wondered if those marks might have been muskie.

I fish it every now and then.  Never caught or seen one.  I think I've seen a few on the log at the entrance.  It can be a very tough lake to fish.  There are some big ones in there.  Not sure why someone would want to keep a tiger muskie.  For ice fishing Parvin, location and depth of presentation matter a lot more than what's on the end of the line, or just wait for one to come through.  In the spring, it's all about matching what they eat in there.

I caught a small one about 15 years ago when I was first married - in open water.  My wife took a picture.  It was only about 18-20".  It was before they put the signs up.  I called the biologist because it looked like a northern pike to me.  He pointed out fine vertical stripe on my photo and told me they had stocked them.  It released itself after the photo.  Haven't fished the lake much but haven't seen or heard of one since.
