Lack of fish at Bynum
« on: Dec 31, 2015, 11:28 AM »
I have just sent an email to the fishery biologist for Bynum Reservoir to inquire about the lack of success in even getting bites up there so far this year to find out if FWP has shocked the reservoir or not. I highly doubt that they will be dishonest in answering such a question that is asked forwardly.

I will let everyone know what it is that I find out if anything. I know that if I were to drive all of the way from Great Falls up there and only then find out that in fact it has been cleaned out again after the fact, I am going to be very upset. It was a great place to take kids as you could catch all of the perch you wanted to deal with.

I just received an response from the biologist up there and I quote "He has heard the same rumor's and they simply are not true." The fish were there when they did their annual gill netting in the fall. That tells me that they are either somewhere in the reservoir that doesn't get fished often or something that mother nature controls has happened to them. I might go try and explore around a bit on Sunday if I get my auger back together. If I do, I will post what I discover.

I don't think that there is safe ice at Holter yet.

fished it last Wednesday and only caught 15 perch in about 5 hours.  they were all spawning females but I think that the lower water level may have them stacked up elsewhere.
