Bait?
« on: Jan 08, 2016, 09:25 PM »
What types of bait do you normally use?  Do you stick with live bait, plastics or Gulp/Powerbaits?  I remember mostly using live bait but that was before the Gulp and Powerbaits hit the market.

Waxworms, waxworms, and more waxworms.  I just fish for panfish/trout but they seem to catch just about everything.

Always start with plastic, but use spikes and wax worms on dead sticks, and sometimes on fish that are non aggressive.

I don't think I'd want to keep whatever I caught using this for bait...

Thanks for the tips, everyone.  I'm making a run to the sporting goods store for some supplies and was debating on how much plastic to get.

Whatever you get, it won't be enough, or the right ones. LOL

FYI Richie - if your local bait store is out of bait or if it's after hours, you can usually find bait at a local pet store.  Just about every pet store will carry wax worms, meal worms, butter worms, etc. Some also carry Rosie red minnows - just remember goldfish are illegal to use as bait in PA.  Pet stores have bailed me out a few times after hours so always a good idea to keep them in mind.  Most big chain pet stores are open until 9:00pm or so.

I switched to plastics a few years ago. Much less of a hassle. Check out Contrabandbaits.com he makes some awesome baits

See, that's the problem. I thought I had everything I needed, and now I have to order some bloodworms, and fry.
