With all the lakes in the Kingston area still open me and ice shanty member TheDL (Dave) decided to hike into a brook trout lake for our last
openwater session of the season. We were only 45 mins north of where we live but man what a difference that makes as this is what we found when we arrived...
The entire lake was covered but only 1 to 1.5 inches thick.
After the drive and a 40 min hike through ice and snow there was no way we were turning around without fishing so considering Dave is 20lbs lighter (and just in general a less important member of society)
he got nominated to go out and punch some holes with a stick!
We had a few holes to fish but only coverd a small area of the lake obviously.
After a couple quick bites it slowed down but we still managed to get a few small specks, but considering it could have been a total bust we were happy.
Nice pansized Brookie
Here is one that I got
Dave's first ever brook trout, well deserved since he did the work smashing holes.
