Hi Bsny79,

Welcome to Iceshanty. We're all getting antsy for ice but there are only a few small ponds with more than an inch or two of ice. The larger ponds and lakes are barely skimmed or ice free at the moment. In the next week or two, if the weather reports hold we can expect to be on many of the larger ponds/lakes. In the meantime, feel free to hang around and join in the discussion. I've met some of my best buddies here, hope you enjoy Iceshanty as much as the rest of us and maybe we'll see you on the ice.

I didn't measure, but mount Tom had ice all around except for northeastern end.  That was at 4:30 on 1/6. I don't think it was safe to fish yet.  Maybe by Saturday if it cold enough at night.  That's a big maybe.
If you can't play nice, get off the ice!

Hard to believe the South Bay is ready. Did you measure the ice? ???

Some rain on its way for Saturday and then a ton of rain and 50 degrees on Sunday.

My guess is that Bantam will be close to zero inches of ice by Monday morning.

Let me know if I'm wrong and be careful! ;D

Yea can U believe somebody was fishing it before I even checked it. It's why I don't trust people when they say it isn't ready. I go and get the facts for my own eyes. The heavy wind will be great for getting that water off the ice. Then back to the cold.  Just be smart. If you don't feel comfortable then why chance it. But if you got the knowledge be safe. Bring a chopper. It's why they make them.

Bsny Welcome to the site. Please take all reports with a grain of Salt. With early ice what was ok this morning can be gone by dinner. Safty first.

Heard Mohawk had 2-3" today from a report but melting fast.   They skipped Tyler because the ice is very sketchy they said.  Not enough for me ,  gas is cheap and will head north.  Stay safe.
