Nice hog pike
But don't quote me on that. I have a drinking problem, I keep running out of beer. I've always been a little bit crazy, but its kept me from going insane.

Nice fish, my first northern on a tip up came from a dead smelt, seems like a good bait of choice considering the cost :)

very nice pike,  ive not done that well with dead bait.  maybe its presentation,  how do you rig smelt?
Pretty simple. I use a #4 Red treble and hook the smelt through the middle of the back so it hangs horizontal in a natural position. I set it within 2 to 3 feet of the bottom sometimes higher in deeper water where pike will suspend. I have also found that the smelt i catch usually have a full swim bladder of air when caught/used so it is important to pierce this bladder so the smelt does not float when submerged above your weight in a upside down position when set. Also I use my vexilar when setting my tip-up to insure the bait does not get snagged on the weights. It will occasionally get snagged on the sinkers when the bait sinks slowly past them making your set once you get to the desired depth making the presentation useless.  Good luck and tight lines.

Congrats on the pike. I've only been able to catch 1 this year so far out of 3 flags. Cause of this warmer than normal winter I haven't been able to go to my pike spot.
