I'm a little dissapointed
« on: Jan 20, 2006, 10:07 AM »
Well, I bought a stone legacy case this winter and I loved it. Problem is, last weekend I pulled one of my panfish rods out only to find that the tip had been broken off :'(. I had not been throwing the case around or yanking the rods out or shoving them in etc. I suppose it happens now and then but I'd never broken a tip when I didn't have a case. The rod was a Scheels brand ultralight and did have a very small tip but that's why I bought the case :-\  I really like the case and it seems really well built ???. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I'm sorry to hear that PIKEGUY. I'm on my second season with my Revolution and I couldn't be happier. Here's one possibility though ... it happened to me two weeks ago. I was in my FT Pro and I laid my rod down against a side pole. One of my fishing buddies ( who I won't name ... he knows who it is ) walked over and flipped up the front. I pushed it back down and the rod appeared OK at first glance. I went to use it twenty minutes later and the tip was cracked.
Something could have happened to yours like a simple tap against a seat or pole. If you put it away this way the crack may have broke putting it in or taking it out. I'm not saying this is what happened but it's something to consider.

thats exactly why I asked whether it was graphite or not......firstly....gr aphite and cold do not mix.......any contact (and its usually for some reason around the rod tip).....a little whack against something.....a bigfoot gently stepping on the rod........and the first thing that happens....is a quick snapoff the rod....I would never blame any kind of case that protects rods in general.........graphi tes are a different story....IMHO....not to be used on hardwater, unless in heated areas......REB...where are you bud?....Grump

It's too bad that happened Pikeguy but I'm also not convinced it was the rod case that caused it . You obviously care for your equipment well or you wouldn't have such a case as this but like has been said at times other things factor in unbeknownst to us like an accidental smack on something . I want one of these cases myself and will sometime . ;)

Yeah, I am not really blaming the case because you're right, I can't 100% say that I didn't whack it on something :-\. My initial reaction spawned from the fact that I hadn't used that rod for a couple of trips and it was "fine" when I put it in the case. Even with a good case ( and the Revolution IS a good case) things can happen. I looked at it the other day and I know if something hits that case JUST right, damage could be done if the rod tip was in a certain spot. All in all it's a great case and I don't hesitate to use it on every trip. It just kind of irked me as I know I was carefull with it....but like you guys said....That's graphite ;)

I had the same thing happen w/ my St. Croix's last year.  It seems weird.  The more you pay the longer stuff should last, am I right?

youd think the more you pay the more something should last. but in my experience I think the cheap stuff seems more sturdy and willing to take the abuse i give it.

same thing happened to me putting a St Croix med-light in and out of a Revolution bag

went to a golf shop and bought those plastic tubes that they use for club handles in golf bags

they were a buck apiece and 6 of 'em fit just right in the Revolution bag

No problems with rod tips ever since.

Broke my favorite ultra light jig pole last year used and used the inside of a pen the clear part of the refill above the ink and some gorilla glue works like a charm. Broke down about 3" so the repair didn't affect the action.

Those golf club tubes are handy to roll charts into as well.  Close one end and seal it with the heat of a lighter and viola.

Sorry to hear about your rod PIKEGUY. That blows. :(
