Striker Ice Predetor Bibs?
« on: Dec 20, 2015, 09:51 AM »
anyone out there using the new striker ice predator bibs? looking to get some input on the overall quality and functionality. Already own the hardwater coat and love it, however it can get a bit on the warm side if your out running around. wanted to see if any of you guys have tried the lighter predator series, and what your thoughts were. Thanks!

I purchased and used the predators last year.  So far so good.  They seem well made and are plenty warm.  Only time will tell how they hold up.

I found them to run big.  The length is adjustable which is nice.

thanks for the input! think I am going to get them in the XL, that adjustable inseam is sweet since finding tall sizes is getting harder and harder these days!

How big did you find them to be?  Should I order my regular size of go a size smaller?

hardwater series - true to size and run a little big for layers. buy your size.

I have had a set for over a year now and they are holding up great, got a cut on my coat but that was probably from a hook or knife for chipping ice.  Overall it is a great suit and can be very warm on those cold nights out and about.

Picked up a predator suit last year. Stayed plenty warm and I'd agree to stick with your normal size as a starting point. To be safe I tried them on in different sizes before pulling the trigger on a spendy purchase.

had a chance to see the striker ice booth at the st paul ice show....I was torn between the predator and the climate after trying on every series of bib they had... I liked the price of the predator better than the climate but I chose the climate after 2 hours of pondering...the one thing that sold me is the removable liners in the bib and jacket... I do a lot of fall fishing right until she freezes and the climate is perfect for 3 seasons...I do agree that the bibs can get a little warm while punching holes when you have the liner in but when its -20c and your sitting on a pail you sure are glad you bought them... im very very pleased with my decision

Just picked up a set of Predator bibs on a cyber Monday sale $149 + free shipping. I'm 5'11" 195 lbs., 36" waist, and the large fits nice. Living in central NY, I can't imagine needing anything warmer. The quality seems top notch. Plenty of nice pockets, good three-way zippers, hand wipe towels, reflective, they float, adjustable length. They packed in a lot of features. That being said, we have NO ICE, so I haven't been out in them yet.  ;)

you didn't mention the hardwater series. is it because they are in the middle of the cost factor? or they didn't have them? or they are too thick of material for you?

i bought the thickest they offer and that's the hardwater series at 600 denier. same goes with shanties, thicker is better and that's what these are basically.

I am on my 3rd season with my predetor bibs love them. with the wind we get here in south west WY I have had no trouble staying warm and I didn/t use a shelter very often I like to be outside. with that you will love them worth the money.

Thanks for the info on the sizing, that was one of my major concerns because there isn't any dealers near me and can't try them on.

Rugburn, where did you get your's, that's a good deal.

the best deals are done for now from the pre-holiday sale like black friday/cyber sales.
i bought mine hardwater and the wife's woman's prizm striker suites all at the same time from dicks when it had 20% off and free ship. they all have free ship right now, but i can't think of any one with a discount too.

I'm 6'2" 200lbs 34" waist and just bought the Predator Bibs in Medium. I tried on the Large and thought they fit good if you wanted to layer underneath but the Mediums fit PERFECT with just a single base layer which I can't imagine needing more living on the MA/NH border. Hopefully I'll be able to wear them fishing soon!

For the guys that have these, are you finding that a single layer under these is sufficient most days?  I am interested in these and curious what kind of layering, if any is generally needed.  Wondering about sizing, I may have to go the ordering route without trying on first.

You should add your location to your profile....maybe a deal/retailer near you

I have the Climate suit ...layering is very minimal with the Bibs ...I removed the liner and just wore sweatpants ...hardly used the Parka...just thermal bases layer...wool sweater and zip hoodie most days..parka w/o liner if  was breezy

I would think the Predator just more layering ...think its compatible with Clams original blue suit as far as warmth

I bought the predator bibs and jacket this fall.  I have been wearing just a pair of sweatpants underneath with a sweatshirt.  I have been plenty warm on every outing I have been on this winter so far, but I haven't fished anything under 15*F so far.  The sweatshirt might not be needed, as I sometimes get a sweat going pulling the sled out and drilling holes, but I can always take the jacket off if I need to.

not knowing how garments/shoes fit is part of online shopping with any thing you wear. that's why i buy from vendors who know this and will pay for shipping both ways until i am satisfied. i stay away from the ones who won't do that. i prefer to shop from an online store who also has a retail brick and mortar store in my state and this also helps the growth in my area.

my old man has a pair of the bids in 2xl so I tried them in before ordering, I'm 6'2" 235 and was swimming in those things. went for the xl. Pro fishing Supply has been great to deal with and the customer service is top notch in my book. They ship via speedy and its free, told me they should be here tomorrow! ordered them Saturday!

I'm 6'1" 230 and the xl bibs fit me pretty good with just thermals under them, but I ordered a pair of 2xl to see if they have a little more room for kneeling and layering.  I went 2xl on the jacket because I have wide shoulders.  The xl fit me better around the belly, but was a little restrictive around the shoulders. If you're looking for 2xl bibs, get them soon.  They're back ordered through the season from the manufacturer.  Dicks has a good bit in their warehouse and sends a return shipping label with their outerwear, making a return easy.  Quality seems noticeably better than the clam, Arctic armour and equally priced frabil suits I looked at.

I have the predator suit and jacket and to be honest my personal opinion is that striker blows away the competition. My only gripe is that sometimes they are too warm.

wore mine out for the first time Christmas eve,  temp was right around 4* with winds around 5mph, and I was unzipping them by 10am. very impressed! only had on base layer and a pair of pants. might just go with the base layer this weekend and see how that goes. all in all extremely happy with them, and for some reason I lover the little detachable rags, didn't think I would use them much but come to find out they are pretty damn handy for wiping off your glasses, slimy fingers, etc. Awesome product in my opinion! thanks for all the input on this thread, really helped to get it right the first time.
