Is Wright and McGill made by Eagle Claw?
« on: Dec 08, 2015, 08:15 PM »
I ordered a Wright and McGill Tony Roach inline reel from SG  from the following link: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/wright-amp-mcgill-tony-roach-in-line-ice-reel?a=1323055

When my order arrived, it was an Eagle Claw inline reel with aluminum reel. The colors look the same but I called SG and they sent out a new reel. I got the box today and it was the same Eagle Claw again. Are these the same reel or should I contact SG again?

Wright and McGill is made by Eagle Claw. If you go to Eagle Claws website it shows W&M.

I don't want to bust your bubble, but I bought one a couple years ago. Junk the drag is terrible and it's not a good balance for a UL noodle type rod. You always bump the star drag and loosen the reel to the point you can't reel in line. The only reason I keep it is not to hurt my wife's feelings,it was a Christmas gift.

Actually, Eagle Claw is made by Wright & McGill.  W&M is the company name, EC is a product line.

They do make product lines under both names.  W&M branded stuff tends to be more expensive.

Been using EC stuff all my life.

Wright-McGill is the company, and here in Denver, Eagle Claw is one of there Brand names.  Came about with one of them admired how successful the eagles were when it came to catching fish.  They farm out having a lot of stuff made in "Other" Countries.

You can insert a rubber washer in between the star drag and the actual reel to help keep it tight. That and you can take the reel apart and replace the cheap felt drag disc in it with a carbontex drag washer. Search the threads and you can find a guy that did it and he had pictures. that should fix the main complaint about these inline reels.

Way back when. 1976. I bought the Bi-centennial Eagle Claw PAC rod.  I went with a friend to Washington Park and was fishing. All I caught was one of those stupid ducks whom got wrapped in my line. I finally got him out and we headed home. A park Ranger came up to us as we were getting in his car. Asked us for our fishing licenses and I didn't have one. He took all of my fishing gear until I paid a fine of $50. Took me all day to round up $50 but I got it back. The ranger was watching us from a distance and knew I was fishing. Even told me how he thought I did a good job getting the duck released. Have had a license every since.
