Whats the Difference between ICE line and Regular?

I was ask this question by a kid today and the only thing I could think of is, It comes in a smaller package and its maketing/advertisement.

Anyone now if there is actually a difference?

I could just say "the price", but supposedly it's supposed to shed water and not ice up like regular mono.

Love it I'll report back. Very good answer in my opinion. Now its a hypothesise and I'll come up with a thesis. Anyone else want to add? I'll give it a try this year.

I have never noticed a difference and i would venture to say 99 percent of guys would not notice either if they fished both side by side not knowing which was reg and ice. Marketing at its finest.

I fished with Stren Magnathin line today that I put on my reels this summer and it worked just fine through the ice!

Lol okay this is my first season ice fishing, thought I needed ice fishing line ,well it makes since!!! But to be honest it does still get ice build up, it also still gets twisted up. But to be honest it seems really strong for 6 pound line. But I don't know if its any better than other line. But it will work as far as price its no higher than 100% fluorocarbon line

I've use regular line just fine,but its hard to find in 2 and 3 lb test in a bigger spool to do a lot of jigging poles.Maxima make 3 lb test in a 300 yard spool 12 bucks not cheaper but you have a big spool to work with for properly filled reels.

Sometimes its the same line sometimes its not.

For years people claimed Pline Floroclear and Floroice is the same line.

Pline Floroclear 3# .16mm diameter
Pline Floroice 3# .15mm diameter

I don't know.  Same line different diameter.  Does that make it a different line?  I think yes.  Even if its the same line formula, and then the manufacturer gives it a silicon treatment, I'll say yes its different.

Most of all, it comes in a 50 yard spool.  But no reel is designed to fill 50 yards, without backing to fill.  Is there such a reel available that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I always thought it was designed to stay supple and soft in extreme cold temperatures........th at being said I have never noticed a difference.

I will use 2#, 4#, 6#, and 8# on my different setups and I will buy whichever is on sale, provided its a good strong line.
