Thinking about pulling the trigger on a used Showdown as my first flasher...opinions on the unit?

Love the unit for hole hopping but horrifically unreliable.  I've owned 5 and had all 5 in for repairs (luckily free)

I had one. Bought it back in the day when they were cheap for a 2nd unit. I did the upgrades and sold the thing to move into a vexilar. for what you get a showdown is way overpriced, not has durable, and simply just doesnt work all that well IMO. I found my preferance to be the flasher style sonars for ice fishing. I would look at a humminbird ice 35 before a showdown any day.

I've had one since AquaVision owned it. It really is the most versatile unit I've owned. I bought a LX-5i towards the end of last season and I think I still used my Showdown more.

Clarification I only have used the Troller.  The fact that they are not water resistant is a huge issue

I've had a Showdown for about 5 years and a Troller for 3.  I like them both and haven't had any troubles (knock on wood).

They are water proof. I have had mine for 4 years and have only had 1 issue- everybody I fish with wants to use it!!!!!

I have had the Troller from the first time they were introduced and have had not a single issue with it. I did send it back for the free upgrade and no longer take my flasher anymore. :)

I've got 5.6 and love it, super simple to use, wouldn't fish without it .  It has made a huge difference in my catch rate, this is my first flasher so I have nothing to compare it to but like it lots.

I have a Troller, will be my second season with it!  Overall, I like it.  Bought it as a backup/easy to check depths and for suspended panfish.  Looking back, wish I would've just bought a cheap Fl-12 or something that could get me by.  Troller works fine, just prefer the flasher and Vex's more!

Let's fish it.

The Showdown 5.6 was my first unit. The vertical display is easy to read & takes no time to figure out. Heated display, so no malfunctions in sub-zero temps. It is waterproof. Very user friendly. Great 1st unit. Bought a new flasher last season & love it even more. The Showdown is now my backup & the wife usually uses it when she hits the hardwater with me.
