Newbie - flipover transportation with Polaris RZR
« on: Nov 23, 2015, 09:38 AM »
New to hard water and the site, learning a lot, thanks.

I have a RZR, and I live about 1/2-3/4 miles from the lake access.  I can travel on the road w/ my RZR to the lake, so theoretically that makes things much easier.

The back deck/"trunk" on the RZR is pretty small (40x20) and I'm struggling with the best method to get a flip over from my house to the lake.  I assume that pulling it behind the RZR would destroy the sled pretty quickly?  At the same time, I don't really want to lift a shanty up on the RZR bed, have it overhanging in all directions, and try to strap it on adequately so it won't fall off.

Am I thinking about this too much?  Will hyfax runners hold up to that much bare ground/pavement pulling?  Any other ideas?  Thanks in advance!

I would think NO ...any way to make a wheel cart/trailer hook up would be my option....or a cage carrier with a receiver.

When you take the road to the lake, are we talking about an access road or a highway? I do basically the same, but the roads I travel are hard-pack ice and snow covered. If this is the case for you, Hyfax will work ok. You don't want to pull these shacks on bare asphalt or cement. Even bare ice is rough on the bottoms without hyfax.

Thanks for the thoughts.  The road is a town paved road that is plowed, so patchy snow/ice/some dry pavement is typical throughout the winter.
And the township sometimes puts down sand also, which I assume won't be good.

So, is a pull behind 4 wheel utility/lawn type cart an absurd idea?  I know pulling it would work on the road, but how about on the lake, assuming not much snow cover?  I could always unhook the trailer and hook up the  flip over once I hit the access I suppose........but I'm old and I'm trying to make this as painless as possible.

Maybe I'll just give up on the flip idea and buy a small hub and throw everything in the RZR.  That would obviously be the easiest thing for transportation, but I hate the idea of losing the mobility on the ice.  I move constantly when open water fishing, and suspect I'd have the urge to do that on the ice too.

I've also thought about the "hitch carrier" type options, which I think is what diehard was referring to.  I'm a bit concerned about clearance, but maybe that would be the best bet.

Assuming your RZR has a hitch receiver as I think all of them do, look into getting one of those racks ATV/UTV cargo carrier racks like those found at Harbor Freight for around 60 bucks.  I tried to post a link but its internet protocol protected.

yup, a hitch mount cargo rack is probably your best bet. Here's one from lowes,http://www.lowes.com/pd_144586-29318-1041500_0__?productId=50126524&store_code=2560&cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-ToolsAndHardware-_-TrailersRampsAndTowing-_-50126524:Reese&CAWELAID=&kpid=50126524&CAWELAID=320011480001729005&k_clickID=0e169b20-ea21-4ef8-9417-567dc1b307ab

just find one that's the size you need.
