Power Auger
« on: Oct 15, 2015, 07:47 PM »
Time to give my 7" Swedish Mora hand auger a break after almost 40 years and thousands of holes. Still cuts great  but the motor (me) needs a break. This will be my first power auger.   I am considering the Jiffy 8" lite propane auger which seems to have good reviews.  Weighs 28 lbs. Weight is important because my sled also seems to be getting heavier.  (Go figure it )  I was wondering if  any of you guys on the shanty have an opinion on this machine.  Any similar weight augers you like?  I am definitely leaning towards propane.  By the way, it was 33 degrees  at my house this morning.  I'm ready for some ice time.  Thanks 67f100

Have you given any thought to the Ion? Weighs about 22 lbs with an 8", cuts great, and lasts a long time.

Ion is great. We've had one the last 2 seasons. 5+ in our regular group. Plenty of holes with plenty of power. Haven't had an issue yet.

I don't personally run either of these augers but have used both and think that either is fine, just depends on if you'd prefer propane or electric. I can tell you that the Eskimo propane augers that are out now have done a great job in addressing the freeze up of the fuel supply, I feel better than jiffy.

Also I will be giving a seminar on augers at the East Hartford Cabela's Winter Classic this December 12th and 13th and will have some great incentives and specials on both of these depending on what you are looking for. If you can wait that long you might be able to save some dough.
