Have The Mickey Boots Dried Up?
« on: Feb 05, 2015, 04:52 AM »
My friend noticed his black Mickey's are wearing out and asked where he can get some new ones.  New ones is a relative term as I believe they haven't been made since about 1985.  Anyway of my 3 pair, 1985's are the newest.  I bought my new pair of blacks from Sportsman guide about 2-3 years ago for about $60.  I haven't seen them in any recent Sportsman catalogs.  Anyone know who still has never issued black Mickey's.

Ive been happy with my muck boots, the white Mickey mouse boots make you look funny, like white dress shoes.
But don't quote me on that. I have a drinking problem, I keep running out of beer. I've always been a little bit crazy, but its kept me from going insane.

Filet what kind of muck boots do you have?  I am in the market for some new boots for cold weather.  Do the mickey boots work that well?  I don't care what they look like as long as I am warm.  lol

When did having warm feet become a fashion statement. I could care less about some one thinks about my white mickeys looking funny.

The army surplus store on M-46 a couple miles east of 131, had mickeys the last time I was in there. It has been a while since I was in there so who knows now.

one of the michigan sponcers carry them knutsons

they have 7 and 10's only.
25$ and 35$

i have access to a bunch of 11w bata's blacks

last time out i used mine for snow blowing and my feet got wrinkled from being so wet from sweat. had thick wool only socks and no liners. instructions that come with them (on a light blue folded card) say to change your socks at least twice.
i should scan and post them for you.
they are good enough for our military. i run kold kutters ice racing screws into them. just noticed i lost a few tho. good thing they are 7 cents a pop.
i have 200$ cabelas boots too, but they let water in at the top of the foot of the boot. so for wet days, the mickey's are on and for knocking around in. they are big looking but not nearly as big as the cabelas are.

I just saw that yesterday while looking at some of the sponsors websites. I saw they only have them in size 7 and 10. 10's will fit someone that wears a normal size 11 boot, they seem to run large. For the price you can't go wrong!
"Colemans Military Surplus" here in Pa. also is a source them.

Allegheny has always done me right. Even when I had to send back the black ones for the warmer white ones.

M3 Surplus in Clinton Township has both white and black mickeys for sale. these are new old stock, never issued. they had quite a few different sizes. at the corner of Gratiot ave. and 15 mile rd.

My aunt and I both bought a pair of the white ones from the army surplus store next to jays sporting goods in Clare. This was a few years ago though. Im sure they are getting harder and harder to come by.

At first they may look funny but when you can sit on the ice twice as long with them on, who gets the last laugh?

I have had mine for forty years and even though some of the rubber on the tongue is a bit frayed they are still waterproof and I have never had cold feet in them  Yes they are large but warm feet trumps good looks any day

Thanks for the suggestions on where to get them.  I really like my black ones.  Glad I have a new pair of size 11R in reserve for when my current ones wear out.

Just ordered and got a pair from Sportsman's Guide yesterday. Never owned a pair but I'm going to give them a try. I thought it would be worth it for $49 bucks before I dropped $200 on a set of boots.

If you got a pair for $49 I'd recommend you try them out right away and if they fit right....buy a second pair and put them away for future use.  That is a remarkable value.

I've had black and white boots. I prefer the white ones, the last pair I bought was 1982,New in the box 70.00.I used them today in -4 to 23 degree weather. I treat them with Armorall before, during and after the season. There still in great shape a little dry rot  on the top back where you pull them on. I sure wish they made new Batas s but not to be. I need to buy a back up pair.

I maybe getting senile but I believe when Mickey's were at their peak of popularity, the whites sold for over $100.  Couldn't afford a pair then.

I used to pour concrete for a living.  After kicking wall panels for a while the black rubber was completely gone from the toes and they still worked fine.  The killer was stepping on a nail after a rookie left a nail in a footing board and left it in the dirt.  Then somehow I got it lodged in the side wall of the boot.  He didn't last much longer. >:(
