Otter 650 Cottage
« on: Feb 02, 2015, 06:50 PM »
I am curious to hear about the Otter 650 Cottage.

My buddy has the 650 Cabin and it is great for 2 people. I am most interested in hearing some first hand experience with the 650 Cottage though.

A lot of the time I would be using this shanty alone so the 650 Cabin might be a little bigger than I need. I like the fact that the Cottage is lighter. I am a small guy and getting the shanty into the back of the truck alone is kind of important.  ;D

My one concern is the tub size.

I have an Otter 650 Cottage and love it. I had 3 flip shanties but the Otter is the best of all of them. More money but you can't beat the quality. Great for 1 person and still big enough for 2 small people, my wife and I are small so it works well for us. Everything I need for fishing is inside the sled. I mounted skis with about 2 inch space between the ski and sled. It pulls pretty easy if the snows not to deep, other wise I have a snowmobile to pull the Otter long distance. I made a ramp to hang on my tail gate so I could slide the shanty in my truck. Then I came up with the idea to mount a winch with a remote control to the front of my truck bed, this works so nice and it's easy on the back. The picture I posted of the ramp is from another shanty I had but you'll get the idea.

I just purchased the XT 650 cottage, and the tub size is adequate. But I probably never will install the bench seat I wish they sold them without the seat/hardware like they used to do a few years ago.I just use a crate with a boat cushion.

Mine went together without a hitch,no problems with tight tent fitting. Some of the 900s/1200s had a problem with tent being too tight when assembled.

As far as lifting it into a truck bed, they can be bulky.I will make a set of crossbars to aid in lifting.

I like the bench seat on the 650 cabin. The way it flips back and forth makes loading and unloading gear easy.

Thanks for the first hand knowledge on the Cottage.
