How much should I offer for this stuff?
« on: Mar 05, 2015, 08:38 PM »
I've been kind of a mooch over the years and I don't own much of my own gear. This past fall a nice older lady down the street offered for me to buy some ice fishing stuff she had laying around. I have not yet bought it, mostly because I don't know what a fair price would be, but I'd like to get it so I can take the kids out. What would you recommend as a fair price to offer? There's several junky old cheap traps in various states of disrepair, and a seven newer nice ones ones including six heritage lakers. There's also an old folding hand auger, a couple ice scoops, an aquarium net, and an old pack basket with several broken bit around the bottom. I've put some pictures up, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

50 bucks
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

$90.
Think of what it would cost to replace the nicer items there.
(lakers, scoops, pack liner, folding auger, etc.)

$50 is all the money. You have to repair the basket & the hand auger is no more than an anchor. :)

75 is fair. That's a $10 value on the heritage traps, 15 bucks for the rest. Those heritage with a metal reel are far superior to the new traps with plastic reels that go for 20 (without line I may add) the other traps aren't much, but I've got some similar to use as loaners. It won't take much to get them working. That basket looks in good shape as well.

50 would be a steal, 75 is fair.

When I saw the pictures the first thing I noticed was the gas cans too. Big brother is controlling everything we do and it isn't good.

I'd bet the blades on the hand auger are dull and need replacing or resharpening. There is no cover on the blades to keep them from getting dull. I like the green grass in the picture backgound, but I'm sure it isn't from this "spring"!

50 for the ice stuff and another 20 on the gas tanks, I hunt those at yard sales now just for the old nozzles. The only thing worth anything are the Heritage traps, the rest you have to repair or mess with to bring back to life.

Yep, and you can get the blades sharpened for free in some places or pay $10 in others.  Then you have a nice FOLDING auger that is good for early season anywhere or to easily pack in a sled for remote fishing.
Not sure why some folks see that as having little or no value.
The trap liner is probably in good shape and the basket is still worth doing minor repairs to.  Give it to a kid and now he has one until he can afford to buy himself a new one someday.
Any useable scoop is worth 7-8 bucks apiece.

Remember guys and gals, this guy said the owner was a nice old lady too.    Would you want someone to approach your mother and offer her a low price for your gear?

I know some people can and will buy stuff at yard sales for rock bottom prices - but this isn't a yard sale - it's someone he knows.

There is more than 100$ worth of stuff .   Do you really think the person who once used that stuff would sell it that cheap?  A fellow Iceman that passed.
Bad Luck if you rip off  the spouse of a once fellow IceFisherman. Thats my 2 cents.
