Slough ?
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 08:53 AM »
I hear alot about the bass fishing thru the ice on tip ups. My question, is the slough fishable for bass early and is it good fishing. When does the best bite take place in most of your op ions,March/ April/May. I can use a small plastic bass tracker with trolling motor. Would that be enough to get to the fish?

Hey Big R, I went up there last year in August I believe to try to learn the property better since I duck hunt it some. I was planning on bluegill fishing but found the bait shop across the street had closed so I had no bait. I ended up fishing a weedless worm and caught 10 or so bass. It's very weedy at least in the summer so weedless might be your best bet. A frog or something like that on top might work well also. I would think you would be fine in a small bass tracker as long as you watched the wind. Also, weeds can really slow the motor. I bought a special prop to use just for duck hunting up there so I could get through the weeds.

Thinking more about the spring before weed growth. How quick do the weeds take over or can  they always be an issue?

The weeds start to show up around june after that it is pretty tuff fishing unless you just fish the pockets in the weeds.

There are lots of weeds at the slough..gets worse as summer comes on,but its still fishable...lots of bass..i go for panfish but everytime im out there everyone that goes bassin usually always does very well.not uncommon for them to catch 35 40 bass an outing..lots of top water baits are used from what i have seen.i go quite a bit in spring and summer...there is a 18in limit on bass to keep, and a 25 panfish limit..its one of my favorite places..

Howdy, never been there but thinking about a panfish trip in the spring from a kayak. Any suggestions on a good public place to put in? Is there a good crappie bite there in the spring?    thanks
